About the Author


Brian Diaz is the Coordinator for the Museum Volunteers for the Environment (MUVE) program at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. As a Miami native, Brian grew up learning about the intricate South Florida ecosystem, both through school lessons and field trips and by exploring nature on his own.

Fernando Bretos is a conservation scientist and manager of the Wider Caribbean Region at the Ocean Foundation. In 2017 he cofounded the Trinational Initiative for Marine Science and Conservation in the Gulf of Mexico and Western Caribbean. 

Shannon Jones is the Conservation Programs Manager at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. As program manager of MUVE, she leads habitat restoration projects that engage the public in restoring important native coastal ecosystems such as mangroves and dunes. 

TJ Morrell is a freelance writer with a degree in journalism from the University of Florida. He has written extensively about sharks and aquatic wildlife in South Florida.
